AIM hosts first music business conference adapted to virtual format in response to Covid-19 31 Mar 2020
- OVER 4,000 DELEGATES FROM 27 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES ATTENDED AIM SYNC 2020
- NEWLY UPDATED VERSION OF AIM SYNC GUIDE LAUNCHED
- WINNERS OF THE FIRST EVER AIM INDEPENDENT SYNC AWARDS ANNOUNCED
How does the Association of Independent Music (AIM) respond to a global pandemic? By pivoting its global sync licensing conference, AIM Sync, into a virtual event! Today, over 4,000 delegates from a total of 27 countries around the world took advantage of the expanded access to the conference.
AIM Sync, originally planned to be held at London's Barbican Centre, is the first major music business conference to be adapted to a virtual format in response to the Covid-19 crisis. Hosted via the AIM Sync website (www.aimsync.co.uk) and powered by UK-based digital experience agency level8, the event saw over 100 one-on-one speed meetings take place, as well as 14 individual panels, workshops and listening sessions throughout the day. AIM continued its mandate for gender parity with a 50/50 line-up of speakers and experts across the event and ensured a diverse range of voices from across the independent music and sync communities.
Due to the decimation of live revenues resulting from worldwide Covid-19 'lockdowns', AIM made the deal-making event free for all members of AIM and its event partners, as well as key industry figures from the sync and brands landscape. The Department for International Trade (DIT) is an Official Partner of the event and have provided unprecedented support to AIM during the transformation of the event.
AIM hopes that the success of the virtual format will create more possibilities for future conferences and help to bring people and businesses together in a safe way during the Coronavirus pandemic, with a low carbon impact to boot.
In his closing speech, Paul Pacifico, CEO of AIM said: "Thank you to everyone willing to put their best foot forward and give this a go. It feels like it's been a great success. Whilst there can be many limitations to how we can all work together over the coming weeks, let's play to our strengths as nimble and creative entrepreneurs to find ways of working which bridge the gaps and enable us to connect and carry on in spite of the challenges."
Pacifico went on to announce the winners of AIM's first ever independent sync awards, an informal prize-giving introduced to the event for the first time this year. 'Independent Sync of the Year' was won by Enhanced Music for their placement of 'I Feel the Love' by Tritonal, Ross Lynch & R5 in Love Island Australia, and Music Supervisor of the Year was awarded to Emma Middleton, Music Supervisor at Create Advertising.
AIM also took the opportunity to launch a new and updated version of its invaluable Sync Guide, which is available free to all AIM Rightsholder Members. Non-AIM Rightsholder members will be able to purchase the guide through AIM's website soon.
AIM Rightsholder members can access the guide for free here https://www.aim.org.uk/#/resources/aim-presents-the-sync-guide
Non-AIM Rightsholder members can register their interest in purchasing the guide for just £40+VAT herehttps://independentmusic.typeform.com/to/gt3yaD
