Midemlab 2021 finalists revealed 19 Oct 2021
Midem, the home of the global music community, today unveils the 20 finalists in this year’s Midemlab startup competition. Winners to be announced during Midem Digital Edition, free and open to all, 16-19 November.
Midemlab 2021, the 14th edition of the annual music tech startup competition hosted by Midem, featuring the most promising international startups that aim to develop new technologies and reshape the music industry, is presented by Sacem. This year’s 20 finalists have been selected by Midemlab’s partners, Music Ally, the leading digital strategy and music industry intelligence company, Panache Ventures, a venture capital firm specialising in early-stage startup investments, and TheLynk, an agency connecting the creative industries with startups.
Midem Director, Alexandre Deniot, says, “Midemlab is always the place to discover fantastic music tech startups with the potential to disrupt, improve and enhance our industry. This year is no exception. We received 203 incredible submissions from 34 countries, testament to the fact that the dynamism of entrepreneurship in the music industry is still intact and in great shape, despite the difficult time we’ve been through these past 18 months. I’m excited to showcase the finalists to the music community during Midem Digital Edition and to find out who the lucky and deserving winners will be then.”
Midemlab: Discovering The World’s Leading Music Tech Innovators
Midemlab is the leading competition for innovative startups in the music and entertainment industry. Entries for this year’s edition have been submitted worldwide across the four competition categories: Music Creation & Education; Music Distribution & Discovery; Music Marketing & Data/Analytics and Live Music Experiences.
Previous participants have raised millions of dollars in funding following their appearance at Midemlab; others have been acquired by major players. Many Midemlab alumni are now well-established in the music ecosystem.
Previous Midemlab winners include Soundcloud, The Echo Nest (acquired by Spotify), Next Big Sound (acquired by Pandora), BandPage(acquired by YouTube) and Asaii (acquired by Apple). 2020 winners Audoo raised $6.9million soon after the competition, while Super Hi-Ficlosed a major deal with SONOS. Since last year’s competition, Midemlab 2020 finalist TRASH has been acquired by VSCO.
The Midemlab Experience for Competitors
Prior to the competition, all Midemlab finalists will have a one-to-one coaching session with Abbey Road Red, the first pure-play music tech incubation programme in Europe, to improve the pitch they will ultimately deliver to the jury.
During Midem Digital Edition, 20 finalists will pitch, introducing their company and their solution for the industry, to the Midemlab jury, made up of decision-makers, international media and investors. The jury will nominate 4 winners (1 per category) who will benefit from free PR advice from PR firm Rock Paper Scissors, free digital content strategy advice from Kuack Media, and free legal advice from Jeff Liebenson of Liebenson Law. Winners will also receive a free mentoring session from TheLynk, a private meeting with investment firms Panache Ventures and Raised in Space, a one year subscription to Music Ally’s professional music bulletin, direct access to the final interview step with accelerator programme Zú, access to incubator 2112’s community, international media coverage, one free Midem 2022 registration, and more.
The Midemlab 2021 Winners Announcement will be broadcast live on the Midem Digital Platform on Tuesday, November 16th at 18:00 CET.
The Winners Announcement will be followed by Midem’s annual Tech Meetup, presented by Sacem and LyricFind. This networking session is a unique opportunity for the music tech community to connect with each other and be inspired by their peers. Access is free and open to all. Midem Digital members can add the event to their schedules to get the link to the session.
