We say

Matthew Russell-Jones, alias MRJ, is a singer-songwriter from Lincoln, and this is his sublime debut single. He was previously a founding member of Winsor Jones, a duo that won Perez Hilton’s talent competition Can You Sing twice over, something that was unprecedented at the time. He also has a solid background in West End theatre, with long-term roles in leading productions including Grease, Spamalot and High School Musical. Now he pours his heart out in this biographical tale based on his experiences as a gay man trying to fit into a heterosexual world, and talks of why the decision to make a break from a deeply entrenched relationship proved to be cathartic, helping him move on with a new sense of freedom. It's delivered with quietly-understated emotion, despite the bitterness within the story, over a beautifully-chilled soundbed, produced by Michael Stockwell of Phrased Differently. See him perform regular live dates in London at Session 58 at The Looking Glass in Shoreditch. This is an honest, soul-bearing song with lyrics that many will connect with, and possibly be inspired by.
