Pip Blom may already be familiar to you, thanks to the acclaim and praise that’s been heaped upon her and her band from Huw Stephens at Radio 1, and both Marc Riley and Gideon Coe at 6 Music. She’s a 20-year old musician based in Amsterdam, and the sound that’s been created here is not unlike what you might finding hearing Elastica blowing the dust of some long-lost garage-rock track and turning the thrill-o-meter up to 11. Spunky, spirited and so damn catchy, wonky guitar riffs drive the whole thing along with youthful energy and verve. They’re one of our hot tips for The Great Escape, and perform twice in Brighton on Friday (May 19), firstly at Komedia at 2.30pm and later at Brighthelm Centre at 8.30pm. Ahead of that, there’s a London show this Tuesday (May 16) at The Old Blue Last.
