Small Moves Records launches with first release featuring Jez Kerr, Denise Johnson and Sidone B Hand Halford 19 Oct 2020
LISTEN / WATCH ‘VOICES ARE GOLDEN’ HERE
Today (19th October) a new independent record label is born. Small Moves Records, with its base in Manchester, is Jez Kerr (A Certain Ratio), Steve Brown (Higuera Records) and Trevor Johnson (Factory Records graphic designer) and will adopt the ethos of other legendary independent labels with deals focused towards the artist. Jez, Steve and Trevor aim to provide a new platform to support musicians, kickstarting their careers, in what has been a testing year for the industry.
Jez says 'Small Moves Records is born out of a collective love of independent labels, great records, made by great musicians. Steve, Trevor and I will be carefully signing artists, who we believe in from the outset, working closely with them to nurture their talent and make the records that create the next generation of musical icons’.
Jez Kerr has joined forces with some of the North's most exciting talent from The Orielles, The Short Causeway, The Lounge Society and Muddy Feet to form Sheep In Fog Collective to launch the label with its first release, The Golden EP.
Also featuring on the release is the unmistakable and iconic vocals of the late Denise Johnson. The Manchester vocalist had completed Where Does It Go before she passed away in July, aged 56, and released her debut album last month, to great acclaim. Denise collaborated with Jez and A Certain Ratio for over 30 years and featured on many seminal albums from Primal Scream, New Order and Electronic.

A Limited Edition 12” EP will be available from 11th January 2021 - Each copy will have an original hand painted post card signed by Jez Kerr. (Limited to 150 copies)
